Genre 2: Diary of an Introvert

Artist Statement:

For one of my genres I decided to create fictional journal entries written by an introvert. The journal entries were written to appear to be by someone around high school age, and this author is nameless and genderless.  In all of the entries, I made sure not to include any references to the author’s sex or name because I wanted these journal entries to be relatable to everyone in my audience, my audience being introverts. My goal was to write a story from an introvert’s perspective and share it with introverts in order to make them aware of the extraversion bias and show them that this bias can be overcame, because introverts are no less equal to extraverts. These entries take the readers through different aspects of the author’s life including school, family life, friendships, social life, and a hobby that the author pursues even further, and throughout these aspects the author must realize that there is nothing wrong with being an introvert, in fact there are many good things associated with this personality type. These entries were written to showcase the extraversion bias that occurs in many different aspects on an introvert’s life, as well as the feelings and thoughts that an introvert will feel in different situations. To display these entries I wrote them out in a small leather journal and included some popular conventions for a journal including; The “Dear Diary” title to each of the entries, each of the dates of that year that the author wrote the entry, writing styles to match the mood of the author for that particular entry, and even little drawings that the author included to further portray the personal quality that this journal has. This fictional diary is personal and I believe really portrays what it can feel like to be an introvert.
