What aspects in our society determine what is highly valued?
My personal investment with this topic is that I believe that people are not considering big issues as important as they should be; such as economical state of the country, medical advancement, or the country's military. This could be due to the fact that other topics are taking the spot light, that are flowing through the circuits of social media. These less important topics include celebritiy ongoings, "who wore what?", selfies, and sports. We are all exposed to what society thinks is most important; we see in magazines, billboards and commercials every single day what society determines “important”. An example of what society finds important is the Kardashians, you are considered an outsider if you don’t focus or are completely up to date on topics like these. Having these "important" topics like sports, takes away attention from the actual important concepts, and the result could lead to less research and less solutions created for what really should be paid attention to. This means less research done for diseases, less technological advancement, and less financial soultions created to help our economy.
Some follow up questions would be:
-Does social media have an impact on what society consider important
-If you do not agree with what’s “important” in society are you seen different or wrong compared to others?
-Which class of people decide what people or what topic is important or worthy in society?
The purpose of the research project would be:
-The purpose of this research project is to have a better understanding on whether a topic is important for the right reasons.
What platform could you imagine writing this paper for? This would be In a satirical article, maybe in the Huffington Post.
Who could your audience be?
-My peers, teachers, friends and general public.
What kind of sources might you use?
-I would use sources from major social media, including Facebook, twitter and YouTube as well as major television news stations and newspaper along with magazines. I would compare all of them by what they consider important and relevant.
