Applying to The Sample Paragraphs

Introverts and extroverts exist in society due to the biological explanation of Eyesnck’s arousal theory. Within the brains of these individuals there is a difference in the sensitivity that an introvert has to stimuli than the sensitivity that an extrovert has to stimuli. We know this yet our society still discriminates against introverts despite their “quietness” being due to arousal hypersensitivity. This knowledge that we know should give us the freedom and ability to utilize both introverts and extroverts by putting them in environment that we know they will excel in. As Jacques Derrida said in His book Structure, Sign, and Play, “By orienting and organizing the coherence of the system, the center of the structure permits the play of its elements inside the total form” (Derrida). Our society’s system is can be changed for the better based on the knowledge we have gained as to how and where introverts and extroverts do their best. So to best change the system we must alter the elements by putting introverts to work in quieter, low-stimuli environments and having extroverts participate in group work. This change will allow both types of people to do their best and acknowledging that their differences should both be respected, not just extroverts.

Applying to Project 2

Original Paragraph:

Psychologist, Hans Eysenck proposed the arousal theory in the late sixties. This theory stated that in regards to their brains introverts are much more sensitive to levels of stimuli, and have a higher reactivity to the same level of stimuli than do extroverts. Therefore it takes much less stimuli for introverts to reach their “optimal level of arousal”, than it does extroverts. The arousal theory also states that any level of stimuli that is not at the optimal level is uncomfortable for the individual, whether it is too high of a level for introverts who are at a social event or too low of a level for an extrovert who is at home and alone (Cooper).

Option 1:

Cooper explains that the arousal theory also states that any level of stimuli that is not at the optimal level is uncomfortable for the individual, whether it is too high of a level for introverts who are at a social even or too low of a level for an extrovert who is at home and alone.

Option 2:

The arousal theory also states that any level of stimuli that is not at the optimal level is uncomfortable for the individual. Cooper states that “this could be too high of a level for introverts who are at a social even or too low of a level for an extrovert who is at home and alone.”(Cooper) Both of these individuals have situations that go outside of their comfort zone.

Option 3:

Cooper explains the arousal theory as: “that any level of stimuli that is not at the optimal level is uncomfortable for the individual, whether it is too high of a level for introverts who are at a social even or too low of a level for an extrovert who is at home and alone.” (Cooper) Therefore both introverts and extroverts can be in situations that will be outside their stimulus comfort zone.

I will probably choose the first option, as it is simply paraphrasing what the author wrote, and this would flow best in my since it is important for me to keep the conversational tone, as I am writing my paper to be read by introverts.
