Introducing the Composition in Three Genres

This composition is a dictionary compilation of words that are used in fairy tales such as the princess, spell, and step-sister. The purpose of the dictionary of Fairy tale words is to shine a light on the very “pretty words” that these stories tell us, and reveal the truth behind all of these words to reveal how for every fairy tale these words and characters follow a pattern and lead to very similar plotlines, and is usually one sided, such as the word “Princess.” Princess sounds like a lovely thing to be, yet it is usually the person who needs to be saved and is always pretty looking with the same characteristics. The author chose this genre because this was the most efficient way to define these words, according to what the fairy tale means when these words are written. The author is trying to reach older individuals who would most likely read dictionaries and similar documents, who most likely also have read many fairy tales in order to evoke humor in what these older individuals know to be true based on all that they have read. This is clear through the satirical tone of the definitions as it pokes fun at the stereotypes that these words have become. For this piece it appears that all of the many fairytales that follow these different archetypes are used as source to create the different definitions that we all know to be true.
