Goldsmith, Kenneth. "An Excerpt & The Afterword From 'Seven American
Deaths And Disasters'" Thought Catalog. PowerHouse Books, 4 June
2013. Web. 14 Oct. 2015.
Kenneth Goldsmith’s article/excerpt from his book “Seven American Deaths and Disasters” basically encompasses the reaction of the news and the public of the events leading up to Michael Jackson’s death. Contrary to normal reactions to superstar celebrity deaths, the media did not put him up on a pedal stool, but actually slightly degraded his legacy as he was constantly compared to the likes of Farah Fawcett and Elvis Presley. The piece is really interesting and does a great job at conveying the emotions of the newscasters reporting, as the reader can visualize the ellipses and “uhhs” as the newscasters are just as shocked about the news, as the viewer was. One thing that could have been approved about the newscast is offering multiple perspectives to the event, as they could have done some outside interviews, or brought in an outside analyst to break down the event.
Proposed Tweet: “Check out this raw reaction to Michael Jackson’s death in real time!”
